I guess because I've been using a widescreen monitor for the last 2-3 years or so they are my preference. Great for watching media content but not the best for reading documents, PDF's etc. I'd rather have a longer view in that case. I do really like the LCD monitors that you can rotate 180 degrees which gives you the best of both worlds.
