New home, I'm finished with my old job and I start my new job Monday.
I'm going to get my final paycheck in an hour.
Here's one for you Postie:
I'm eligible for a week's vacation from my old job that I didn't take yet. Do you think my boss will give me the money or not since I've left his employ?
I bet you a dollar to a doughnut he won't since nothing was in writing. I could be wrong about this and I hope I am but I'm finding as I age that there are few people who pass these kind of ethical challenges when it means money out of their pocket. I won't say a word if he doesn't but I will be dissapointed.
Here's an even trickier one:
Last fall my kid wanted me to make him a bedroom suite and later new doors for his cabinets for his new house he bought. I asked my boss if I could do this work in his shop and he said yes. Now he had been wanting me to get him a deal on a fly rod. This kind of put me in a spot because I can still sometimes get deals on equipment for myself even though I no longer work actively in that industry but have friends that do. For me to ask them for a deal for someone else put ME in an ethical bind, well it would have put them in an ethical bind, also. To get around this problem I gave him one of my rods in exchange to use his shop for my personal project. He said I could do the project anyway but to save myself having to ask one of my friends to do something that was basicly wrong, I said no, I'll give you the rod in exchange for the shop usage. I never made the project, I never used his shop. I know this is on his mind because the other day he told me I could use his shop for the project. I told him no, that it wasn't necessary because I can make personal projects at the new shop I'm going to.
I really don't know what the answer to this one is, I only know what I'd do if I was in his shoes, we'll find out here in a bit. I won't say a word if he skips over this one either.
