changed oil

Well I must confess I never checked the oil level in my motorcycle since I bought it. Well I have been trying to get everything together (tools, service manual etc etc) to do the 16k service on my bike. The last couple days, however, the bike started sounding funny. I was thinking it needed the oil change and maybe the carbs need cleaned so I asked the previous owner when the last oil change was and he said fall of last year. Today I finally got a filter (bosch as well there was no other filters in any stores etc around me that were not fram) and some rotela T oil for my bike. Changed the oil and the oil was quite black. The bike takes 3.9 quarts of oil. I was able to drain out 2 quarts of oil out of it. Nothing more came out. Good thing I changed it. Now I gotta find time to finish the 16k service so I can make sure my bike isnt burning oil which the exhaust is clear so im not sure it is. I know whomever did the service doesnt know how to use a wrench. the edges on the oil bolt are almost all rounded off. I put 3.9 quarts of oil in it and started the bike ran it for a few and checked it. Got the correct oil level now and its actually clean .
