Documentation, white papers, tech reports. I tend to look at white papers (long, boring articles from the manufacturer on a technology) and go through the actual facts on a technology when its at all possible. Talking to engineers who have designed products. I've spent many a night talking about technology with people who jobs are directly related to such technologies. I also have had access to a number of press kits in various areas.
