You're right, mate, it's a picture of an actor portraying Rasputin. I've read somewhere there still is a copyright issue wrt usage of a real photo of him, so they resorted to using a image from an actor.
Why they've chosen to use him for the cover of their new CD?
As you know or not, Peter Steele has a (ongoing) cocaine addiction which feels as if he's killing himself on a daily basis, but he keeps on waking up every morning (with a bad image in the mirror), thus the sentence 'I cant believe I died last night. Oh God, I'm dead again' (when waking up,
) The link with Rasputin is the fact that the mad monk survived several murder attempts on his life and seemed to be undestructible, despite his unhealthy life-style (alcohol, women, high testosterone and sex-drive combined with bad hygiene
). In a strange way, Peter Steele can relate to that.
The song Halloween in heaven, although despised by a majority of the Type O negative fans ( Bender excluded
) is dedicated to the late Dimebag Darrell (God Bless his soul!). There's no mention of his name though, since they dont want to be seen as exploiting his name for the purpose of selling records.
