The snake was thinking "Damn, if I can get it down thats enough for about three years!" and it did get it down. If the people in that village or whatever would have left it alone it would have been fine (giving that it didn't bust, which it appears it wouldn't have). It most likely *coughed* it up because it needed to defend itself. In a way its rather sad, its abuse of the snake.
