I had a chrysler front wheel drive mini van that was doing just that, since I rotate my tires every 6000 miles, the only way I knew it was happening was because of a brake self adjusting problem, my rear brakes were wearing out faster than they should, but I never paid any attention to tire wear. If you rear brakes are taking the braking load excessively, it should be accompanied by excessive brake wear also.
