I have never re-installed OEM's or full retail versions for that matter from the CD on my home computers. I always clone the fresh, validated, OS patched install onto another spare HD, before any programms are installed to it. I then use a clone of that clone for the next regbuild start. With this method with XP, you didn't have to re-validate the OS. Of course, this is assuming you are doing this on the same computer hardware you originally installed it on.

I'm not sure Vista will allow this, since I haven't tried it yet.
Do you know Chem?
