If I was to give the best comparison from the past at least from my point of playing games.

It feels like Quake 1 with a splash of all the others. Very fast paced. Not to confuse though with class speed. Your class has a speed value there is no sprint.

Example. Scout class: Super fast, lowest armor
Heavy weapons guy: slowest, highest armor.
everyone else fits in between those.

Other then that its pretty much what you see. Tricks like rocket jump and grenade jump are nice and you pay for it in damage you take. Only bonus is (If you can script) Old quake 1 rocket jumps (tweaking the script) can minimize the damage you take. Been working on this and almost have it to the minimum damage to take. Most people can steal or write the scripts today but, I value the old school days. Most of us understand the timing withing the script equation better. Most just map keys to make it work. The ms timing delay is the key.

Play style and game play... This is where I think they did it right. nothing is overly complex about it. To think about the game another way... K.I.S.S applies to this game and I think they did a good job with it. I won't say the game doesn't need tweaking. It could use a little but, nothing like some of the other games I have dealt with.

It helps to get a team or a partner to work with. While you can go and solo in game play usually its only good for doing DM style. Unless your a spy and then you wanna be solo.

Its a smooth game. everything feel right for size and scale.

The hook over all for me was the look. I was getting tired of all the realism in games and this is a good way to bring the simple way of graphics to a Highend graphics card world. Machine wise since its still working off the original hl2 engine it won't kill you graphics card.

I've ALWAYS complained about games in the past. Something wrong with this.. Something wrong with that.... This is the first one I have nothing to complain about. My only disappointment was the lack of maps after 10 years in the works... However with Valve giving use sdk tools soon for this new maps will be around the corner. You can see maps popping up now.

Price wise for me.. The Orange box deal back during beta was the key. 44 dollars was worth it without a doubt even though I had hl2 and episode 1. All those little extras was well worth the value and not to mention if you already have some of the games in your steam account you can give out or (sell) friends as a gift so it doesn't goto waste.
