Parallel ATA. You can mix both SATA and PATA drives.
Going with a SATA is the way you want to go because when you throw a 3rd IDE drive into the mix you are setting it as a slave on one of your IDE channels. So you will have performance problems hitting both drives on the same channel. So add the SATA drive.
