Mesk,

I know this thread is a few days old but just wanted to offer my opinion.

I have been using this router for over a year now...

http://www.dlink.com/products/108mbps_xtremeg.asp

pair it with the extreme wireless pci card by dlink and its a great combo. I have 4 pc's and a laptop all running the wireless and have had no problem with them at all. Ping and connection have also been very satisfactory. I live in a 2 story house that was built in '32. it has plaster walls. I have one pc downstairs in the basement. The wireless router is on the ground level floor inside our tv cabinet. the laptop is wherever and the other 3 pc's are upstairs on the second floor in the kids rooms. we all play UT4 together with me being on the basement level and them up top. No packet loss or dropping of any sort.

I recommend the setup but then... something newer and better could have came along since.

I tried DLinks newer router with the MIMO technology. It sucked. My connection strength went downhill. I returned it and went back to the above router.

Anyway, it's posted a bit late... but you never know.

What about having some network wiring run in your house. I just had 3 jacks put in and it only cost me 200 dollars. You are going to end up spending at least that much on wireless network cards and the router I would think.

nope $20/network card plus $100 for router equals $160 for 3 computers .

wireless is not secure no matter what mac you filter ( i could sniff your connection and change my mac to your mac, or over power your access point with my amped up AP and make all your boxes associate with my AP..then i gots you) or what level of encryption you use. If someone want's to crack your wep they will...

If you do banking etc online then i would definately throw a wired connection in there somewhere to do this. I know people will say well that 's not secure either, but it's better than making it uber easy with wireless. The chances of someone sitting on your connection sniffing for your bank account and password is remote. Most just use it for the free internets or to attack target X. (by the way turn off shares on the computer you have hard wired so to speak)

sniping your wifi
