That was fast
Ok so perhaps I should have RTFM

I went into some area adn then poof awindow comes up telling me there are all these ships detected.. so I used my invisibility cloak ( it works for harry potter) and then poof I apparently escaped in my POD and now my ships toast and I cant get another one of its class , So now it seems I am trading in an emergency escape pod. HA!

Your cloak has to be higher then the highest planets level sensor in order to use that

The pioneer is teh base ship you get when you start - it can't be stored, if you blow up your ship and have an escape pod you will get another pioneer. You will need to go to the shipyard and purchase a new ship and trade in your current.

Also very important - after your first ship you have to buy an escape pod, go to sector 2 to buy escape pods. If you blow up your ship with out one.. well game over.
