Does BF2 work with a M$ Sidewinder 3D joystick?

It does not seem to even know mine is connected to my system.

Found my answer - BF2 does not support joysticks connected to a game port, it only works with USB port joysticks

I'm looking at getting something like this....

http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/x45.htm

Checked it out in the store... but the throttle felt flimsy...

This looks to be something that might fit what I'm looking for...

The problem with the Sidewider is that XP does not support it, it's not a BF2 issue.

You can force it to work with XP, I did with mine, but it never held it's calibration for me making it very hard to use. (could have been an issue with my particular joystick which had been sitting around gathering dust for a few years)

I ended up buying a Logictech extreme 3D pro.

Here's the MS article on how to make the sidewinder work:

My MS Sidewinder Persision 2 works just fine with XP and BF2. I just had to go set it up in XP and then the game.

They're a bit expensive ($300!) , but damn it'd be fun to use one of those!
