Major problem on all PB servers

My cousin just got BF2 about a week ago. He's been wanting to play this game ever since they mentioned the release of it. He built a whole new computer just to play it. So he finally buys it and he can't join any servers that have punkbuster (which is pretty much all of them).

Actually he can JOIN them, but it's only a matter of seconds before his entire computer locks up and he can't do anything. This only happens on servers with punkbuster. He's tried reinstalling the game twice now and was hoping this latest patch would be the big fix for him but he still can't.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

does it kick him back to desktop? that was a ati driver issue i believe.

does he have all the patches, or the FULL 1.21?

there's a prggy called pbsetup from PB at www.evenbalance.com. he can run that and it checks and updates PB (for all games with pb).

a new patch JUST came out and maybe the servers aren't updated that he's joining?

PBSetup may be the answer since his PunkBuster
will be VERY out of date.

He has an Nvidia card, and the screen simply locks up. He can get in the server, but as soon as he hits any button to select gear or join a team, or anything like that it simply freezes on him.

I've tried the PunkBuster setup several times with him, and he's tried it more on his own. He has also emailed both EvenBalance and EA/Dice about the problem, neither giving any advice that I hadnt given, still didnt work.

He tried this a few days after the 1.2 Patch had come out, so I believe he was still joining servers that were indeed up to date. I'll have him try the new patch and see how that goes, hopefully it'll work.

So yeah, we've tried all of the things I can think of.

theres a check box to show only same version servers.. use that too

That's on by default anyway, and I know that's not the issue. Its something just weird with PB and his computer I guess, I've had him update the files, he has all the current drivers for every thing in his computer.

Sigh, I wish I could get this fixed for him.

did you try installing the first patch and going on from there?? rather than 1.21 try 1.01. does sp work?

Sp does work and I've had him try various patch configurations, incremental, and full patches, etc.
