"Lets put it this way (working with welding metals etc) aluminum takes next to nothing to get hot but it also takes next to nothing for it to cool down. Steel (on the other hand) takes a while to get hot and a while to cool down. To weld aluminum you need a much higher voltage (I usually run 140-150) to weld than you do steel (usually around 120) because of the properties mentioned above.

I am not trying to make a point of an aluminum case is better than steel or vice versa. I am trying to point out that it will not make that much of a difference unless you are doing some major cpu intensive stuff 24hrs/day 7days/week etc."

Gaming is major cpu/componet intensive stuff......
While were not talking welding here... Your point about aluminum vs. steel heat transfer is what I and some others already were saying and I disagree with your statment that it won't make a difference. It will.... not by itself.. but when you pair it up with all the other cooling tips and heat saving componetry as well as making your air flow correct... (which by the way can be a science sometimes based on an article I read)... then it will make difference. Kind of like this analogy... one penny in the jar does no damn good... but 100 pennies totals up to something totally different.

There is no arguing with Scientific facts and reviews and I will choose that anyday over "I doubt". To be honest, if I had my way my pc would be running in a refridgerated housing.... or I have even looked at water cooled. I don't game enough anymore to consider that anymore though.

Anyway, I have that same case for one of my pc's rkt... it's a great case. In fact all of mine are thermaltakes. all of my fans are thermaltakes and all of my cpu coolers are thermaltakes...

Guess I am a thermaltake kind of guy.

Myth busted.

Slinki, it cant be a myth, its scientific fact. The test shows what FD said though, movement of air is the only true matter. Aluminum can help, and in some cases it will, and the amount it helps can be highly dependent on case design, there's aluminum cases out there that act as one giant heatsink for the entire system, you couldnt do that with steel.

Any case, IMO, is truely up to personal perference, as long as it has a decent fan setup and lends itself to being quiet (meaning it uses 120mm fans) then its generally okay in my book. Of course there's a few companies I tend to hate *cough* Thermaltake *cough* but other than that, any one is up for game.

thanks thats what I have been trying to find at work but been busy lately. Aluminum needs to be hotter to weld because the melting point of aluminum is higher than steel .

The test shows that two computers of identical design (one being steel the other aluminum) have virtually no difference in ambient temperature. Eveything after that is a variable.

not to stir the pot up blong.. but the car analogy really has nothing to do with two rubbing metals..
it has to do with weight... an engine with x amount of horsepower can push an aluminum car alot faster and quicker then a car made of steel!!

BUT I promise you this.. the next time I am looking to melt my computer case.. I will definatly buy steel! :P :P :P

They sure do have many difference if its metal, steel or aluminum, i got some experience with my own PC, made 2 extra fan holes in it because its from aluminum which is to warm. the thermal take cases are all premod what i don't like, better make one myself

PS: that case is a real fridge, check www.metku.net/modgallery for some good mods.[/img]
