There's indeed a BIOS update out there for my mobo which mentions "fixing CPU temp readings". Of course now I need a floppy drive to install it. Will rip it out of the old box when I take it apart. Made a bootable CD which booted fine but for whatever reason doesn't see the BIOS files I put on there......

You dont need a floppy to update the BIOS, most have an inside Windows program these days, some allow the use of a USB stick, and veriety of other methods, but a floppy might be the easiest for you. I havent had floppy drives for about 4 years now.

you could need a floppy in the (somewhat unlikely) case it goes to crap and you need to recover
i'd pop the sucker in anyways

Allright, quick update: finally got around to flashing the BIOS and now it runs 34C rather then 54 C when idling.....

They weren't kidding when the bios update notes said "fixed CPU temp reading"
