Bad news but...

You might see more of me during the summer than you did last semester. So get ready for the aim bot to come on and the "multi-kills" to manifest.

So I commute to NIU now (Northern Illinois University) that is a 25 mile 1 way trip from my parent's house.

I just got done with the semester from hell. The **** kind of hit the fans when I went back to school after a 1 year break from getting my associate. The counselors recommended the 3 worst classes to take during one semester that anyone who already attends the school would only take separately. Go figure... counselors knowing anything good for a computer science major. I ended up with 1 B and 3 A's though... it just meant I had very little sleep and didn't see friends for months on end. I still managed to hold a part time job as well working 15ish hours a week.

The classes were CSCI330 (Unix shell programming), CSCI360 (Assembler), STAT350 (Statistics that is calculus based), and UNIV201 (A transfer student get to know the college 1 credit hour class). Yeah, assembler was a good 15-20 hours a week of homework which made me pull near all night 10 hour program marathons at least 2 days a week. It is a fun time working from around 8-9pm at night to 4-7am. That did not even count my other classes with homework. The only B I got was in STAT350... statistics is a joke. I don't consider that math. Lets just pull a number out our butts and make up a formula to explain how we got it but leave out the explanation.

You get the idea... The good news is that I passed the hardest programming class required for my BA degree (Assembler) and have easy sailing ahead of me.

Oh and for Reckless: I can write programs so got a job available?

I thought it was an interesting class... but the time it took to work out the program bugs were a major PITA when you only slept for 2-3 hours per night for 2-3 nights. Sitting in front of a monitor for 8-10+ hours straight late at night after a full day of school and then work makes your eyes want to bleed.

I had so much no doz and energy drinks consumed last semester it was bad... I was going through 1-2 boxes (of the 4 packs) of those 16 ounce energy drinks a week / per program on top of sometimes having to pop a no doz while I was doing the energy drink just to take the edge off of the lack of sleep.

You actually make it sound disappointing .

But hey, if you can program Assembly, you can program C++.

I haven't used it in like 2ish years but I will probably have my next computer science class with it next semester.

I am going to try to get an intern job with IBM next summer due to pretty good pay for 40 hours a week of work during the summer. (or so the computer science counselor told us in the meeting for comp. sci. majors to declare)

By the way, I am a junior now.

Also, how does it work out having an intern across the country? Do they live in California during the summer to work? (NC is North Carolina right?)

They need to get setup in housing here in NorCal on their own.

A typical intern package with us is:
- 1 roundtrip ticket
- an account with a company that will help find temporary housing
- 20-25/hr depending upon experience and degree level
- one time housing stipend of anywheres from 500 - 1500

And yes I'm talking about North Carolina. This paticular candidate speaks fluent Chinese which is very helpful for me and my US based team as we have a number of teams in China we work with quite a bit.

In fact I'll be heading to China in July...uggghhhh....I think I'll probably melt over there from the heat....note to self: change this travel date.

I think if you can pass Assembler and get a good grade you can succeed in any programming language you want to. That is the class that weeds out the true computer science majors from the wannabe ones that lack dedication or computer understanding.

Hence why it is a requirement to pass before you can be excepted into their comp. sci. program.

Very nice indeed. I might look into the possibility of applying for an internship next summer (2008 ). I got a computer security course over this summer though so it kind of kills me getting an internship.

I am still trying to work out the finer details of a double major in computer programming and cyber security (professional hacker).
