UT3 Game...

Just picked up my UT3 pre-ordered collectors edition on my way home from class today...

Any of you punks going to play with me tonight as I enjoy the slide show?

On a more positive note... I hope to get the new G92 core based 8800gts in the 1024 MB flavor that should be released on December 3rd. If this is any indication on the previous g92 8800 GT being faster than the G80 version of the 8800gts 640 MB and also being only about 10-15% slower than a 8800 GTX (on the non over clocked versions... the over clocked factory ones were the same or less than 5% difference on a lot of the 1600x1200 and lower resolution benchmarks) this card should be the same if not faster than the 8800 Ultras after a nice over clock.

Not too shabby for the price I might add... the expected non gouging price is set around 300-350 for the 512 MB 8800 GTS so probably closer to 400-450 for the 1024 MB version.

Tried UT3 in Win XP. 1920x1200. All settings maxed. Ran average of 84 fps. Colors seemed weird.

Loaded it on Vista: 1920x1200. All settings maxed. Ran average of 84 fps too, but it looked cleaner and smoother than XP did.

Haven't tried Internet play yet as my DSL is acting up, and they are moving me over to FIOS 7mbs service on the 27th. On the old DSL I can't find a server under 140 ping.

From everything I've seen on the net, yes, it supports DX10.

All this means is that UT3 will support DX10 - it does NOT mean that DX10 is required! We expect the vast majority of our users will be Windows XP / DX9 users. We will also support Mac and Linux as per usual.

How many DvTers are we going to have that will be playing UT3 in the near future?

Less than the current amount that we have playing UT2004?

It runs good on a Geforce 7800GT 256 meg card. A lot better than the demo ran on my machine. (AKA the pretty slide show)

I run it at medium settings at 1280x1024 if I remember correctly. I am sure you could turn down the graphic effects and use even older video cards for a smooth frame rate that is still at or above 30.

I am curious as to what is going on since there has not been that many people responding even after 3 weeks of the game being out.

Sorry dagger, Real Life rears it's ugly head. I've played it offline just long enough to know it works on my system. Who knew saving lives could be so time consuming?

I am ready to play. Soapy has been playing and should be finishing with his system upgrade w/in the next few days and be really ready very shortly. Reck is ready...if we can get his sorry a$$ outta China long enough to actually play. UY has been essentially silent on the subject of UT3...although he has said that he will need at least some upgrading...the money for which he is busy spending on his woman. Rhino gets a little bit better than a slide show on low settings with his system. I've given him a little advice on upgrading but I don't think he has started anything yet. Hawk has shown virtually no interest in UT3. Mostly because he doesn't want to spend the money to upgrade "a perfectly good" 4 year old computer.

It runs about like a dachshund in knee-deep mud on my machine, so I turn the graphics down as low as possible on a smallish screen and I can get playable frame rates. Playing online with Hex and Soapy with Soapy hosting, I would occasionally dip down into the low-teens for framerates, but it still played alright and I had a lot of fun. It is taking some of getting used to without the dodging and shield gun. I'm really missing both of those quite a bit, but it does feel like the original UT more than 2k3 or 2k4, except with vehicles and a hoverboard.

I'm not looking to upgrade much of anything on my PC any time soon, but I look forward to the day I can run UT3 with full eyecandy.
