My son joined the Marines
He's in Pendleton now doing his basic. Going to be a combat engineer I guess...blowing up stuff.

He's big and strong...and gung ho. In any kind of a fair fight I would feel sorry for the other guy but fair fighting isn't "in" over in Iraq. I hope he doesn't end up there.

Congrats! I'm sure he will enjoy Pendleton, it's right on the coast and a very nice base, only about an hour south of us. SEMPER FI!!

Enjoy Pendleton? If its anything like I remember he'll be lucky to come away without bandages on him somewhere....probably on his hands for not holding the rifle just right. The Marine Di's back then had no mercy. Dunno what they are like now.

Both my sons are talking about joining the Forces here
when they get older. They're talking Army, but I'm telling
them the Navy's cooler.

Although I honestly believe it can all be a great career,
with great training and benefits, this whole War thing's another story.

Very cool UY I support all the services. In my 22 years in the Air Force I served with all of them, Including a few of the Canadian Armed Forces but have the most respect for the Marines. Disciplined well oiled machine. I'll take odds on 1 Marine verses 100 Al Queda any day.

If I could have I would have been in the Navy but as I was on my way in they saw that I had knee surgery and never called back I was so upset after taking all the tests to get in and not being able to go. God be with your son UY.

Got my first letter from him yesterday. Said the DI's are messing with everybody but he knew that was coming. One guy ran away and they caught him on the tarmack at the SD airport.
They made him sqaud leader and he said it sucked cause he was always getting in trouble cause of the guys in his squad. lol
