I just checked my fps in 4 different maps, with color control on and off in the same place in each map. I did get a "performance hit" with color control on in each map. However, what I was seeing was only about 2 to 6 fps difference...not 50% that you reported.
Could you post a couple of screenies, with and without color control, with "stats fps" on so you and I can be looking at the same things? F9 should still work for screenshots, as in 2K4.
At the same time, due to the big differences in our CPUs and vid cards, we probably shouldn't be surprised that we would have different experiences like this. I am kinda surprised, given what color control does, that it would affect your system as much as it seems to.
I'll see if I can hassle Hawk into doing a comparison on his machine with the mutator on and off. His upgrade is similar to yours and should make for a better comparison with your machine than mine does.
If both of you are taking similar hits from the mutator, I'll turn it off on the server...as much as I like what it does for the visuals in the game. A 50% hit is too much, for sure.

Another question....when does the "enter cd key" go away? I've installed the 1.2 patch but it still asks me for it. Also, why the necessity to login to gamespot each time?
Hex, check your email...thnx

Mail box checked and answered.
The "Enter CD key" is supposed to go away after the 1st time you enter it. This is a known PITA prob that some people have. The medium answer to fixing it is "I don't remember how to fix it, but hang loose and I'll look it up for you." The short answer is "maybe you'll luck out and someone else will tell you how before I have chance." (I have to get some sleep 'cause I have practice and work tonight and won't track it down right away, maybe not until tomorrow). The long answer is "check this stuff on the Midway website and/or go to the Epic forums and check/search the Troubleshooting forum or the General Chat forum and find the answer yourself," which is what I will do if I have to find it for you.
It is necessary to log into Gamespot everytime because Epic is cheap and fkked up. In 2K4, whenever you went online to play on a server the game silently checked your CD key against their blacklisted keys to verify that you had a legit copy of the program. Your copy didn't have to be legit to play offline. With UT3, instead of maintaining their own database server for checking whether you are legit, they turned this over to Gamespy and they it set up so the game wants to check your CD key when you first start the game (instead of when you say you want to go online) -- but Gamespy won't let you access their server w/o logging in. If the Gamespy server is down, you can't login and you can't play online. (This, the server being down, has happened a number of times and sometimes has been down for several hours...but never "terribly long," like all day and overnight. However, if it is down (or if your copy isn't legit), you can click the "Play Offline" button and still play SP (Campaign and Instant Action)...if you play Campaign when "offline," (I think) it will not save your Campaign results. Everyone in the Epic forums has told Epic that this requirement to connect to Gamespy suX.
This Gamespy c r a p is also why you cannot "alias" in UT3 before going to a server. All Gamespy logins have to be unique and you cannot change your nick after logging in. You can, however, create multiple accounts, with different nicks (of course), so if you want to play as MyEyesBugOutAtTheSizeOfDMWsPackage instead of as [DvT]UY, you can do this by making an account using this name and logging in with this account instead of your UY account. I have 3 accounts: {DvT}Hex (what I usually use, 'cause its short), {DvT}JonahHex, and JonahHex (Hex was already taken, thieving bastrd).
Get your head together to get used to it...there is a bunch of BS like this associated with the game...Gamespy; the UI sux compared to 2K4; however, once playing, Sudz and I (anyway) think the new game r0x...the BS is before the gameplay actually starts. I especially do not like the UI: the menu system is dumbed-down so PS3 and Xbox users (ppl too stupid to get and use a PC) can contend with it; the configurable things in the game are limited (again for dumb console users); the game is very configurable in the 10 or 20 or whatever .ini files (making it too complicated for ignorant console-type players to mess with and hard for the rest of us, in spite of the fact that console players can't get to the .ini files). Patch 1.2 fixed the UI a little bit, and Patch 1.3 will (when it is finally released) fix it a little bit more, but still not to the point of being as good as the 2K4 UI. In spite of the fact that 1.3 hasn't even been released yet (it's still in non-public BETA), there is already a long wishlist for Patch 1.4, albeit many things in that wishlist were put in by idiots who don't know the difference between a Patch and a BonusPack and should (at best) be playing on a console, or more reasonably, playing hopscotch or jacks or with the mobile hanging over their cribs.
When I say the gameplay r0x, remember, this is a new game...it is different from 2K4...just as 2K4 was different from UT(99)...so don't fall into the "it isn't like 2K4 so it must be bad" horsepuckey like the "it isn't like UT(99) so it must be bad" that infected 2K4 when it was released.
Ok, I've stayed up too late already and gotta get some sleep.
Oh, where are those screenshots I asked for?
G'nite Hex and sweet dreams.
