Freshwater question

Okay, now that I'm home for awhile and something other than my jaw can/is demanding my attention

Anyways, I had 2 angels & 1 chinese algae eater in a 10 gal tank. Well, the male angel has grown quite large and I had to purchase a larger tank (29 gal b/c I cant afford the one that I REALLY want *coughcough*)

The new tank was set up about 7-10 days ago. I noticed some cloudiness in the water (AGAIN! GDI!!!) so I did some water tests. Here is the results

Ammonia: 4.0
Nitrate: 0
PH: 7.8 (the test kit only measures up to 7.8 so it might be higher)

Now, I understand that the ammonia level will rise in a newly established tank for the first week or two until the ammonia is turned into nitrites and then nitrates and perhaps that is what I'm dealing with now.

I also think they are being overfed. They are fed once per day BUT I think doodlebug is feeding them to MUCH and I might have to either take over this duty or show him how much (again) to feed these 3 fish. Pffft!

Now, I have added 2 drops per gallon of potassium permanganate (Crystal Clear by Aquarium Products) with no change. I'm going to do a partial (25%+) water change.

Any other suggestions??

Get a bottle of Nitromax. It will take the cycle from 2 weeks down to 2 days . this will help remove your ammonia. However I would do a 50-75% w/c (water change) as that is the only way to get rid of it. Have you tested the water you are using for w/c's?

Thanks blong.

No, I am not testing the water when I do w/c's. I will do that tomorrow when I get to the water change.

Also I did a google search on Nitromax. Do NOT do that without adding +aquarium
