Hmm... Olympus cameras really aren't that bad. At least not the ones I've used. Canon and Nikon might be the best of the best but I wouldn't say the rest are no good and couldn't produce images of competition quality.

I'm just saying that no one in my camera group/club...who has placed in a competition has used anything other than a nikon or canon.... not judging quality ...just making an observation. My neighbor had an olympus for a while and took some really great pics with it..and I know you do with yours..but when you start spending that kind of money ($500+) on a camera.... I'd stick with the two biggies......that's all I'm saying.

Olympus makes good value priced camera for pocket cameras, but for a digital SLR, the lens quality and options from Nikon and Canon are better. I totally agree with Varmit on this one.

I know a lot of people are looking forward to the release of the Sony DSC-R1 - even with people that currently own a DSLR

It's the first all-in-one digital camera to utilize a large (APS size) sensor and it's 10.3 megapixels.

It also has a live preview on it's lcd screen - all for about 1k

I checked the lens prices that fit the olympus and all I can say is DAMN! those are expensive! I'll keep looking at the Canon XT and Nikon D70

I picked up the Canon Rebel XT a couple weeks ago and have to say it is outstanding. I think it would be hard to find a better deal for the same quality right now. The kit lens that you get isn't the best but will produce great output. Plus, the camera will accept the lenses from your non digital Canon SLR (this is what sold it for me). Great overall camera.

Uggg... don't go with the Evolt. Seriously. Their 4/3 system introduces a crop factor of 2X. That's huge! Great for tele, but awful for wideangle.

Plus the lenses are amazingly expensive because they market and price their lenses as equivalents, not what they actually are.

Their 400mm lens is actually just a regular old 200mm, but the 2X crop factor makes it into a 400m, and so they feel justified to charge the 400mm price (which increases exponentially as focal lengths go up). There's really nothing special about these Zuiko lenses that the Canon L's or the Nikkor ED lenses don't have.
