Love the sunset (or rise) one!
I've always wanted to take one like that
My skies are just always white, or the sun is white and you can't see a shape or anything.
Very nice birds pics also

I would have liked the first one more if the figure
and the gulls had been the center vertically ..
somewhere between fishing and heaven

The best time to take dramatic pictures is during sunrise or sunset when the light is the most interesting, and won't get overexposed. The sun is not white during sunset and sunrise. Of course this means sometimes waking up before sunrise and waiting around for sunset, but the shots are worth it, provided that you get a good shot in the short amount of time when the sun is just above the horizon. For that shot I metered directly into the sun, with a shutter speed of 1/1000s.

Sunset and Sunrise shots in the backcountry are especially hard. For sunsets, you stand around taking pictures until the sun's gone. Then it gets pitch dark because, well, it's the woods, and starlight and moonlight are definitely not enough to navigate to a campsite, especially when its heavily wooded.

Sunrise requires you to get up when it's pitch dark, fumble around in the cold and darkness to the vantage point, and wait in the cold.

I find that a lot of people don't realise just how dark the night can get in the backcountry. They're too used to the street lights, the porch lights, the car lights, even light bleeding from faraway towns or buildings. Let me tell ya, it gets frickin' DARK! Turn off your headlamp, and you ain't gonna see ****. And then there're the shadows dancing everywhere and the rustles in the bushes nearby...
