I'm in the market for a camera
I'm looking to get a decent camera for my girl for x-mas.. my budget is about 700.. I was looking at the rebel xt packages with 3 lenses and 1g memory card.. comes with table top tripod and reg tripod and a case... the price I seen was about 619 on ebay.
I want a camera that is easy to use for beginners but can grow with... am I looking at the right camera?
any feedback is greatly appreciated..
thanks guys
sorry I havn't been around much.. I have to work like 12 - 16 hour days to catch up to my finances.. but i'm almost there.. YAY...

I have the XT, and it's a great camera. It would work well for beginners as it has quick-function modes that do things automatically based on the type of shot you're taking. At the same time, it has manual settings for when you get more professional. The lenses all have auto-focus, but you can switch them for manual, too, when you get better. I would highly recommend it. What kind of lenses does it come with? I would look for one with a standard lens like an 18-55mm, a telephoto 70-200+mm, and maybe a wide angle

Skull, may I suggest you take a look at the Pentax K100D? The K100D Super has just come out and I think the 100D could be had for a good price, now. Pentax was a bit slow getting into digital but they are cooking now. I have the K10D and it's an awesome camera. The thing I like best about it is all the old K-mount lenses and with a converter, all the M42 screw mount lens are compatible, with restrictions.

While this may be a good camera (I don't know much about it), it doesn't seem like something for a "beginner," as Skull states he is. The ability to use lenses from 35mm cameras is good, but if Skull is a beginner, he probably won't have any (correct me if I'm wrong). I do really think that some Rebel would be good, whether it's the 8 MP XT or the 10 MP XTi
