Photo Contest - Looks easy and it's free to enter

http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs...=Photo+Contest

I'm seriously thinking about entering at least one picture. I'm just a bit weary of the being asked for the negatives. It flat out states that you do not get your prints back, but it doesn't say this of the negatives, if they are asked for.

I read a bit more and it looked like the owner of the photo retained the copyright.. but I don't know if that is for the winners. I'm thinking about submitting one still as I could really used that money if I won the grand prize.

Ritz Camera Centers reserves the right to publish any photo entries in the Big Print Capture Your World Photo Contest, either in print and/or on a website.

this statement is i the rules and regulation and is not a transfer of ownership.

I read more on copyrigthed material under the leagal terms and conditions and can't find anything about forfieting your ownership.

You must provide the slide or negative of the winning photo, if requested.

that causes concern, but i think it is for verifying purposes that they would ask.

so that means you can't submit digital photos then because there is no slide or negative. and that completely blows because my 35mm pictures aren't all that great, at least not compared to my digital ones

My cousin and I were on this kick last year where we were trying to enter all these photo contests. We came across this one and I don't believe it's a scam... I don't think I entered it though. Thanks for posting the link... no harm in trying, especially since it's free!

While you're looking at photocontests though, beware of picture.com. COMPLETE scam. If you enter a picture, they'll publish it AS LONG AS you buy the book. So of course if you read their letters saying they've selected your picture to be published, you're gonna get excited. Then when you purchase their $70 book, you open it up and expect to see your picture along with other good quality ones, but you don't. You see the pictures of anyone who was willing to buy the book, and some of them even I would say are just downright bad pictures.

As far as contest winning, I've had the most luck with my local news station contests. They're almost always for amateurs so you don't have any super professionals bumping your chances of winning out of sight. It's a good way for people to see your photos and name (and also something to brag about if you win :P).
