was experiementing wiht my cheapo digital camera

It was like midnight and I had my checp *** camera beside the bed and I turned off the light.. Then I turned it back on and got an idea. I know that the light is created by a very hot filament insides. when you turn off the light, the fiament cools off and then there is no light. We can't really see this well because it is so quick and if you stare at a lightbulb while on and then turn it off, well. you see a spot in your eyes.. So I decided to use my cheap *** camera to try and capture the filament cooling. It took 4 tries. one was completely black. the last final shoot was better than expected. It would be interesting to see what a good camera could capture.

posted in order:

yeah. angle is funky. I was laying on my side. And yes my hand looks funky.. it's pretty much completely grafted. And yes that is a bottle of lotion. it is for my grafted skin on my legs. So no perverted jokes, ok.

That last light pick is completely insane Hakko. I love it.

yeah. it was totaly surprised to get that in 4 attempts. What really kicks is that everything is totally black. I didn't expect that to happen. I wonder if the orange tint is normal, or because my camera usually has a bit of red in a lot of pictures.. I would really like someone with a good camerea to try this and post it here.

Hey Hakko I replied in the "other" place too lol...

I don't think your digital camera looks like it produces terrible quality pics or anything.

This is a really creative idea. My camera certainly is not the best, but I'd be happy to try this little experiment out with mine tonight.

I was using a Casio QV-7000SX . Mode dial was set to nighttime and I had flash turned off. Aperature and white balance was set to auto and was using multimetering. I did not make any ev adjustments either. Those are the only thing I could have changed. lens range was 32mm. I was holding the camera away from the source by about 2 feet (arms length)

That's about it. I would try to click the shutter at the same time I pulled the cord thing. Basically as soon as the switch clicked. Timing is hard to do.

I'm anxious to see the results guys/gals.

i'd try with mine but it takes a really long time to take the picture, like 10 seconds or something like that. i dont know why. i tried taking motion pictures (bird in flight) and it didnt work well at all

if it is pitch black once the filament is cooled then it doesn't matter as long as you start the pick when it is nearly gone. I'm assuming you mean the shutter stays open for 10 seconds.

You know, somewhere I have a wierd picture of a digital camera that actually picked up a reflection of it's own CCD. This was a microscopy digital camera that did this. I will see if I can find it and post it, it's pretty cool....

no, it's not that the shutter stays open for that long. if i move the camera around the pic won't necessarily be blurry. it's like the computer on it is slow: there's a gap between when i push the shutter release and when the picture is actually taken and then afterwards i have to wait for it to pop up on the screen before i can take another
