There have been alot of mixed feelings about the game. I know I loved the original. They started off with the basegame and you could get to level 20. Then later they added additional expansions that allowed you to hit level 40. The last expansion I thought was great. They really pushed what the engine could do. Seeing the nwn2 looks like they will go on. I just hope they can keep the flavor mix up-to-date with it like the previous game. I got 5 good years out of the first one. I'd love to get another 5 out of this one.

Not like Diablo. Titan Quest is like Diablo.
NWN was cool, I finished it on the SP but could never really get into it like some people did.
I'm looking forward to get Gothi 3 some time. Think Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but much better done and a more living world.
The current Diablo clone of choice is the above listed Titan Quest. Or, WoW.

Well the best thing to do is take a look at some of the screen shots. I remember diablo and it has some similarities but there is MUCH more to do in NWN1/2. Basically, its AD&D paper placed in a computer world.
Its NOT WoW were you have to pay every Month. You can play the single player. or you can even go online and play with others. I like the Solo play. I also enjoy online when its with people you know. If you have a AD&D group and you have a DM. You can actually make on the fly Games where you actually have a God or Diety watching over you. Meaning the Dungeon Master. They have a special Client for the DM which has the ability to play God in game making and building things as you go.
The only thing I am confused right now is there have been claims that when the game is released on the 31st it WILL NOT have the DM client and that would be aval for next patch which WILL follow within a months time. Now I could be wrong but thats the rumor. The DM thing really isnt a big thing of the bat since everyone will be playing the solo adventure however, Those who like to play the SOLO on line with other player for the campaign might want the DM client to add alittle more Zest. I know eitherway things will work out. They've to the best I could tell always had pretty good support for their games and if there was any issues or problems they were dealt with a HELL of alot faster then what EA/Dice had done to bf2.
