RTS's
been trying out Warhammer 40,000 & Company of Heroes. Both seem fairly simple to pick up, heck I'm doing it
Company of Heroes is really sweet looking all turned up, especially when you zoom in.

Company of Heroes is addicting and yes the graphics are impressive, Relic did a great job. I would recommend it to anyone who is an RTS fan.
The best part is all the variable upgrades in units and disciples when playing MP or skirmish and the many ways to strategize.
Warhammer is similar but the time peroid and weapons aren't really my cup of tea. Fun, but not CoH fun.

I really enjoyed Dawn of War : Dark Crusade expansion for warhammer, for the SP, it made it basically like a game of Risk. I havnt played CoH so i wouldn know, i also havnt played the warhammer games online.

I got into Company of Heroes for a bit.
Never was an RTS fan, but it manages to be very cool.
Two bum cracks up !

Two of my bosses played COH for a while and it got VERY repetitive is what they said. They have not gone back to it after quitting.
Been a bit though.

How can an FPS be less repetitive? Once you know a map you know it, there's choke points, etc. Same thing over and over, its mindless.
A RTS on the other hand takes a lot of management and tactics. You have to make proper choices and players can have radically different styles. Rushing, or teching, etc. You can also play RTS games online btw, and if you don't then no wonder it gets boring, you're playing about 1/4 of the true game. The vast majority of balancing, etc is done for online play and a great RTS does not shine truly till then.
*Coming from a person who has over 3000 matches played in Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 3 TFT.
Also, if you want to try a different take on the genre look at the upcoming Supreme Commander. A demo was just released, the game is focused on huge scale battles. Not just hundreds, but thousands (up to 50,000 I believe) units per side in a battle. The game allows zooming all the way up close to from a satellite view of the battle. Be warned, that there are a few bugs in the games AI code that causes rather slow performance even on massive rigs (talking 8800GTX and quad core systems here). It is a spiritual successor to Total Annihilation for those who played that game.

I assume PN meant, or atleast I did...offline RTS. ppl make the difference online. yes the map is the same (aren't they all?), but ppl do things very different everytime making it dynamic. but trying to compare the 2 equally is hard since gameplay is different.

What RTS can not be played online though? It just happens to have a real campaign to it, but the main focus on most RTS games is the online. If all you do is play against the rather horrible AI in most games then its always boring. Just like FPS.

I Do agree with chem quite a bit, there is a whole different universe when you switch to online gaming with RTS games. I probably had over 10,000 hours logged playing C&C Red Alert 2, and played their ranked ladders for 2 years before starting SOF2..... i think one of my best ranks in the game was around rank 30 of about 5,000 players ..... i played that game ALOT
