Crysis "Special Effects" Trailer
A new trailer is out that is comprised of naming some of the special effects that will be introduced with Crysis. While the video itself is very awesome, the last bit is just simply mind blowing for a game. I suggest everyone take a look at this trailer.
For those wanting to see the best explosion and physics effect ever witiness in a game then check out this animated gif. Put simply, all games should have this from now on!
This link goes to a larger video, though I personally can not get it to work for me.

The video was most certainly done using the DirectX 10 path, most likely a 8800GTX or similar card. With that said, I would say the physics should still be there on lesser rigs (though I expect the game to heavily favor multi core systems). The main benefit of the DirectX 10 path will be enhanced graphics with better performance, DirectX 10 is much more efficient when compared to previous versions of DirectX, it sheds a lot of the crap and will allow developers to push graphics features without losing much on performance if the same features were done with DirectX 9.
I am most looking forward to the settings of Crysis personally. So far we've seen the huge island concept again but also an ice world once you enter the "sphere" that is continually shown. While there's been a small amount of footage inside said sphere, its not a lot when compared to outside the sphere. Plus the nuke blast there seems to hint at possibly another settings as well to go along with those two. I would not be surprised there's some off the wall stuff in Crysis, as they've shown a lot but I don't think they have given the game away.

CryENGINE 2 Movies [March 09, 2007, 7:22 pm ET] - Post a Comment
Crysis Online offers two new CryENGINE 2 movies from GDC, showing off the power of the next version of Crytek's game engine. There is a Sandbox video and a tech trailer, the later of which is available for download in a high resolution version. Thanks Joystiq.

Wow, that game will sell some pc's, for sure Soul. Chem, do you think a E6600 o/c'ed to around 3 gig and a GTS 320 will run it smooth with settings cranked? 1080X1050 resolution? Or will that system be underpowered out of the box?

The GTS with only 320MB might hold it back, depends on how much Crytek puts into foot print saving technologies, I would say some, but not a ton. I tend to be on the side of caution myself, not much of a risk taker with my money.
What I've heard performance wise is that an 8800GTX can run Crysis in its current state around 45~60 FPS at 1680x1050. Lots of work is being done to increase this, Crytek is very serious about making a quality engine and making a efficient and well coded engine. While I think an 8800GTS 320MB might do just fine with very near to max settings, one aspect I just forgot is that a GTS would be running the DirectX 10 path and therefore could off load to the main memory which could help a bit. Besides spending another $100+ I doubt we'll see better performance in the price range unless R600 is a shocker. Which I would suggest waiting for at this point, just to see.
