didn't read all the posts, but i havnt had many probs with dell at all.... actually on friday i contacted them with a problem regarding my HDD through their chat support. they had me run their diagnostic utility (which i had run my own 3rd party program that told me i had errors) eventually their utility came up with 4 errors, and a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes, i had talked to them on chat ( only 15 minutes after i re-ran the test and wrote down the error codes) They next day shipped me a new hard drive to install my self (had to tell them i was a computer technitian but still) now im in the process of deciding weather to ghost the old drive to the new one, or just start from scratch.... btw the old hdd still worked, i just noticed slight decrease in performance with certain games so i checked it out, and none the less there were errors, bad sectors ... only 2 total, but it still caused some problems. Had a Hitachi travelstar in it, they sent me a refurb WD. I'm happy, its unfortunate for you capt, but i cant really figure o ut why you are having such problems.
My laptop i got the 5yr premium service plan they have, which i recomend getting any warranty you can with a laptop.... i deal with them at work, and if something goes wrong, your pretty much screwed into getting a new laptop if you dont have a warranty. desktops...not so much.might be good for parts later on tho, i suggest if you can, make a small business acct, and get it through that, the warranties are much better. and you get in home services.
For 1 gig, it is better for 2 sticks, as it would run in dual channel if oyu have that capability. Right now I am running 2 gb, 2x1gb sticks.
