Weird error

Got all the parts for my new system, put everything together, push the power switch: nothing!

What do I mean by nothing?

For a brief (fraction of a second) it looks like things are trying to take off: case fans trying to start, little red LED on Mobo briefly flashes on.

But that's it! I've been reseating cables, making sure everthing is properly in place, disconnected all non-essential stuff like case fans, front usb ports etc and no further progress.

Any ideas?

Since I might not respond again till tomorrow, here's a few things I'd try:

Double check to make sure you have all the power connectors inserted. Such as the 24-pin connector.

Make sure the graphics card has its power connector connected.

Go to a bare configuration and see if you can at least boot up or sustain power, I'd even try without a graphics card just to see if you can get power to sustain.

Knowing all the specific parts, and especially the power supply will help me get a better idea of what could be wrong.

Dutch my wifes old computer has this problem all the time. well I just found out my memory wasnt quit seated all the way down. I would also disconnect the power supply (24pin) connector to the motherboard and reconnect it . when I did that last one it would boot up again. However I dunno about you but ever since I reset the ram I havent had to reinstal anything as the computer starts like it should now instead of come on for a split second and then turn right back off.

I'll second Chem's idea of disconnecting all drives
and cards, so you have just ram/power/and the board.
(and make sure the ram is seated in the proper slots)

With this configuration, you should at least get the board to POST.

I borrowed a PS from a neighbor to try out to rule out the PS.

I disagree with RAM, I highly doubt it'd cause such an issue. Motherboard is a much more likely issue to me.

if it was the RAM , you'd likely get a beep saying so,
but I wouldn't entirely rule it out.

Sounds like you are down to the mobo, cpu, or RAM now Dutch.
(assuming you disconnected all other hardware)
Can you swap any of those onto another system
to rule them out?
