Localhost mystery

All of a sudden my work computer will not let me connect to paypal.com or ebay.com. when I enter these in my address window, I get page not found.

I do a tracert to paypal.com and it returns my localhost ip 127.0.0.1.
same happens with ebay.com. If I ping paypal or ebay.com, it returns 127.0.0.1

All other addresses seem to work and return their internet ip's on a ping or tracert.

Any ideas???

O yea, I use IE, but the same thing happens in FireFox

check your localhost file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Open it with notepad or some text editor, see if it is listed in there.

Appears corporate IT doesn't want you going there.

Patched, scanned, hijacked.
Had consultant's that were in the office look at it.
No luck.
This is on a dual boot system, & everything works fine on the "dark side" (Windows 98 ) but this is using WINS. Looks like something is hosed with the DNS on my system/server on the W2K side. Just can't figure it out.

Looks like time for new build.
