Disk Boot Error problem

Ok I have a problem with my pc. I got some new RAM(a stick of 512 DDR PC2100) and installed it. Now when I boot my pc it gives me a Disk Boot Error please insert system disk. Ive tried taking out the new ram and it still gives me the same error as well as moving the sticks in different slots. In order to boot up my PC now I have to have the system CD in the drive. Other than that it works fine and boots up normal and it registers the new Ram. Ive checked my BIOS and the boot order is Floppy, HDD, CD. Ive tried scandisk but it comes up with nothing. Im kinda worried about my pc's health now. Any Ideas on whats causing this?

My PC stats

AMD Athlon 1800+
Windows XP
Radeon 9550 256MB
768MBs of DDR Ram
90 gig harddrive

I would try unplugging the Hard drive and then plugging them back in. Sounds to me like they may have been bumped when putting the new ram in. (I have never done that =) )

That would be the first thing I would check. Disk Boot Failure means it can't find the primary hard dives boot files.

something on the hard drive could have gotten corrupted, though that wouldn't have anything to do with the ram

Ive tried replugging the cables, but it still does the same thing. I have noticed though I cannot shutdown/restart my computer without completely turning it off. Windows shutdown just hangs.

I agree with blong, try taking the new ram out and putting the old back in and rebooting the system. This is a quick and easy test of the ram. If this does not produce results, check your hard drive settings in cmos, it may have dropped the settings when you installed the new ram.

Put the old RAM back in and clear the CMOS.

I tried putting in the old ram beforehand and that Memtest thing came back with no errors. Still with same results when I boot. Im not sure about clearing the cmos thing. I looked at my MB diagram/instructions and theres nothing about a cmos jumper. I appreciate all your help. Ill try to figure out how to clear the cmos next.

What brand is your HD? Are you getting any SMART errors on startup? Or go to the manufacturers website and see if they have a diagostic utility to run just to make sure. I think westerndigitals utility will also run on non WD drives or at least it used to in the past.

For WD drives:
