Raptor Question.....

Hey,

I got a Raptor 150G in my last Rig. My nefew got a Barracuda 250G in his new rig. Is this possible that his Barracuda is a lot faster than my Raptor?

For instance, tonight we were both palying BF2 (one beside each other) connected to my router. He always load his maps at the beginning of a new round faster than me. His client data check is also much faster. Always faster, a lot faster??? He also load programs faster than me.

We have same Motherboard, Memory ad CPU.

Do I have to check some config on my computer that would explain why my Raptor is not faster than his Barracuda 250G?

I thought Raptor was the fastest???

The Raptor is the fastest, and its most certainly faster than a Seagate (Seagate, while probably the most reliable HD maker, is probably the 2nd slowest in performance).

There's something else holding you back, and it could also have a lot to do with settings. He might be loading lower settings than you.

Also, make sure the proper drivers are installed for the chipset, that could cause slower performance.

Which chipset? You mean nVidia Force4 or ASUS motherboard driver?

Both?

I'm assuming that the Asus motherboard driver is just a repackage of the Nvidia Nforce4 drivers. The Nvidia drivers should include the SATA drivers.

I dowloaded a Hard disk spped test called HD Tach

http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public...request=HdTach

This program tells me this for my HD (Raptor):
Random access : 8.1 ms
CPU utilization: 44%
Average Read: 10 MB
Burst Speed: 11.3

This program tells me this for my nefew HD (Barracuda 250G):
Random access : 13.6ms
CPU utilization: 2%
Average Read: 56.8 MB
Burst Speed: 241 MB/s

What is going on?

My other HD gets this for the same test:
Random access : 15.5ms
CPU utilization: 1%
Average Read: 48.9 MB
Burst Speed: 116 MB/s

Probelm resolved:

My Raptor was connected on my SATA-1 port on the MB and my Maxtor (second HD) was connected on SATA-2 port.

I moved my Raprot to the SATA-3 port. Now I get:

Random Access: 8.0ms
CPU utilization: 4%
Average Read:75.8 MB/s

Burst Speed: 138.2 MB/s

Does that mean my SATA-1 port is not working properly?
