Vista Beta 2 first impressions

Well, I loaded it up on a PC that was on the approved/certified list to run Vista Beta 2. I did a clean install, and couldn't get the sound to work. It said all the drivers were loaded and it was running, but no sound. Next, I ghosted a drive with XP on it, and did an Upgrade. Now I had sound, BUT, it wouldn't let me log on except as a Guest. Finally hacked it, and got the Admin account working. After 18 hours, the desktop got hosed, and couldn't recover it. Did another Upgrade to it to fix it, and have been able to keep it running for 2 days now. Knowing that it is a beta, it runs OK.... Not really stable yet. No BSOD's yet, but lots of warnings of drivers that stop working and programs that stop responding. A simple reboot fixes it most of the time. Vent and UT2K4 had a few issues on the first day, but now run smoothly. I'm hoping that RC1 will have fixed a lot of this. Once I get my hands on that I will be able to decide if I will adopt early or if I will wait until my next PC upgrade, being I just upgraded to a whole new PC last month.

There's a newer build out that supposedly fixed many of these bugs.

I just got a copy of the Microsoft Programmers addition, not for general beta testing. So far it's running pretty well on my other computer.

The Office 2007 beta is running stable at the moment.

I have given up on Vista, and haven't tried this one, every time I try it I end up reformating and starting over after a day or two.

Office 2007 Beta I have been using since december and like it a ton, stilling trying to get used to the ribbons tho, wouldn't mind that going away.

As a longtime Office guy, 2007 is, by far the biggest change of any Office upgrade. So far I have not seen many bugs.

I must eat my own words.. I have tried multiple version of vista and removed them all in short order, the other day I borked my PC and so I decided to rebuild and try out the latest vista build.

WOW! They have fixed many of the bugs that made it un-useable for me before and am actually quite liking it. I have made it half a week (on vacation now) and it was rocking and rolling just fine.

I wouldn't try it for my gaming rig, my work rig though is just fine.

I believe they aren't giving out any more serial #'s, you would have to look else where on the net to find one, unless you have a MSDN subscription
