MiniDV and video capture device

I have a Canon Elura 100 MiniDV camera and I recently shot some footage I would like to burn to DVD. The camera came with a USB cable but after reading the manual I'm guessing it's going to take more than that to get audio and video into the PC.

The Question --> Does anyone have hardware experience and/or suggestions for transferring video and getting the information to a workable format in the PC for something like windows movie maker or vegas.

Editing a movie (text, music, etc) and burning a DVD isn't really a concern since I've played with this in the past.

I'm not sure why using the USB cord wouldnt be able to send the audio and video across. Does the manual specifically state it doesnt support this?

I dont see any other reason beyond transfer of the data for the USB cord.

The USB cable is for transfering the still shots/photos you take.

You will need to use the Firewire to grab the video/audio off it or drop them onto the memory card.

What lopo said. All you need is a firewire connection. Of course, you can get a minidv capture device that's similar to a vcr, but that costs $3000
