some versions of linux arnt that hard to use anymore. modeled right after the windows interface/ i've used fedora and mandrake and they were both very simple. the problem with linux is that it is associated with nerds and that it is complicated. it also lacks software support for most things, which is the only reason i dont run it.

it lacks software support for very vew things and thats because its not the norm. You still need some dos type knowledge when using linux for installing most things.

There are many desktop environments when using linux(all but 2 suck), which really, you can't compare linux to windows in that respect because Windows you only get the MS GUI. You don't have the option to run GNOME, KDE, Xwindows, etc.

Windows 3.11 did have a clunky UI.

Many DAPs have support it for ages while the iPod has continued to go on without it.

I like competition in the market, its a good thing and it imporves products and lowers prices. So in this case, I hope MS comes out of the gates and gains some share of the market quick so Apple makes a better product.
The bolded area is what I was referring to earlier by a "big company" -- meaning one that has and will use its resources to fight.
