random crashes >=(
Out of the blue, my computer crashes. At first I thought it was because maybe I had game settings too high and too much stuff was going on so it gave up and crashed, but I just went up to use it and it crashed with the screensaver on. Could it have something to do with the fact that one fan on my PSU stopped working? I'm going to clean it out later on, but was just wondering if anyone had ideas about it now.
Just for reference, I'm planning on updating the PSU soon, hopefully this weekend, next will be my case, possibly my SATA drive afterwards, and depending on how much money I have at this point, I'll be getting a second monitor, a widescreen for DVDs

1.) A fan dying on your PSU would be very bad.
2.) Don't get a second monitor solely for movies, just get a decent one and replace your main monitor. Widescreen is great for even general use.

Very, Very Bad.
You might want to look at the "Video Card Problem Guide" thread in the video card forum. I have been talking about overheated cards/systems there today.

Nah, I just bought a new one retail. I highly doubt it's that; this is especially so because the x1950xt takes in air from outside the case, unlike many other cards that use case air. I'm pretty sure it's the PSU. I guess I'll have to go ahead and get my new one before I get paid.
Chem, do you have any sites I could go to to look up monitor reviews or should I just google for them?
Off topic: Jonah, glad to see you're a Douglas Adams fan =). Great guy/writer

Capt, my point to you wasn't so much about video cards, but overheating in general. My contribution to the thread was as much about the new case I'm getting (for the purpose of cooling my vid cards) as about video cards, but that also lead to some discussion about keeping the system cool...and the problems if you don't.
Oh yeah - Douglas Adams is a literary giant. He stands arm-in-arm with Shakespeare.
BTW, Chem knows whereof he speaks regarding the widescreen monitor as well.

X1950XT blow air outside the case.
Monitor reviews are generally a joke. All of the 22" monitors for example have the same panel except for the new Samsung and LG, though the Samsung is a nice panel lottery so you could get the new one or get screwed. +1 to Samsung for being a great company...

Looks like I hit the lottery. I'm quite happy with my Samsung 226BW.

Even if you got the old panel its still a great monitor. I have the Gateway 22", which does cost a bit more (about $100) but I needed the component hook ups and PiP functions as the monitor is also my TV. Its just I find panel lotteries to be a bit of a shady act because the quality is different yet its sold as the same model, Dell does this with their 24" (and at $550+ is really shady).

What Gateway monitor do you have Chem (and can I get it on Newegg)? I'm thinking of getting a TV tuner. Though, this won't be until later in the summer when I have some mulah; it's far from imperative.
Jonah, sorry I misunderstood what you were saying. I'm pretty sure my computer is running a bit hot. So I'm getting this case after the PSU:

Can hardly go wrong with so many 120mm fans... Though I may look into the deadzones Chem was talking about in another thread.

I have a Gateway 22", you can only get it from Gateway or Best Buy, Best Buy is where I bought mine, on sale. It was $330 after a sale and award accounts on my dad's business account, normally $400 at the time, now $379. Other 22" though are going as low as $250 these days, really just as good but not as much features (DVI and VGA only, no 1:1 pixel mapping, no PiP).
I've heard good things about that case, with its twin 120mm exhausts it generally handles the 4 120mm side fans better than one 120mm for two 250mm fans, the Zero's fans are also MUCH less blocked than the Windtunnel's as well.
