safe mode
I can't get my computer to restart in safe mode. I keep pushing F8 throughout the whole load up, and it does nothing. I've got an infected file that NOD32 (my AV program) can't get rid of so I want to go in through safe mode to delete it myself. I'm going to format this weekend, but I still have files to rescue off of my main hard drive.

try gipo move on boot.
Gipo move boot section at Free Download Manager
tell it what file you want to delete and it will delete it on next boot before it evne has a chance to load. As for safe mode couldnt tell you but did you try DEL or ESC? F8 has to be pressed at the very moment windows just begins to load otherwise you wont get in.

i can't figure out how to get it to work, and quite frankly dont have the patience to try to figure it out. i have to get into my system volume folders. it keeps telling me access is denied. i went through the steps on windows help, and it still doesn't work. im supposed to go to sharing and security and there's supposed to be a security tab, but there isnt. and i cant just format because i dont have another hard drive to save all of my stuff on. plus, im afraid that the virus has been imbeded into some of the files.
it's called win32.adware.wbug.a. it pops up on NOD32, but it can't do anything about it; on top of that, i cant tell if it's being quarantined or not. it attached to AIM install files. when i deleted them, NOD32 quarantined the files, but i cant get to the ones in system volume information to delete them.
EDIT: after checking the quarantine folder, ive found that it's empty. so i dont know if that means it deleted the files or what

Download another anti virus and run a scan and see if it shows anything ( AVG would be quick and easy, since its free, just remove it afterwards), if NOD32 is listing it as adware or spyware then run a spyware program. You can download a limited functionality version of Spyware Doctor if you download it through Google Pack Updater. On the Google Pack make sure you deselect everything but Spyware Doctor. This version of Spyware Doctor lets you run a full scan but its simply missing portions of the active guard protection, which is not a issue in your case.
Why this? First to see if its even there, NOD32 could be reporting something that is not there. Its not unheard of. Second, if it is there then one of these programs will probably be able to get rid of it.
Why is safe mode not working? No clue off the top of my head...

I had a full version of Spyware Doctor's Error Doctor, but it got deleted when I first got the virus.
I'll try AVG in the morning, about ready to go to bed soon. But I tried running Trend's free online scanner Web Page Under Construction, which didn't work for some reason.
Thanks

Link goes nowhere for me as well. I'd give some other things a shot, you might also want to try a boot CD named Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. Included (among many other useful tools) is a few anti-virus scanners, the one I have the most experience with is named AVPersonal. It is worth a shot, I've seen it catch some viruses others have not (that run inside Windows).
Should be straight forward on building the disc using the information on the site, when you boot it you'll need to select the launcher for it (blue screen, you'll see what I'm talking about) and then just simply press enter through the various questions that will pop up.

Do you have AIM? if so chaeck this out AIM 5.5 Adds WeatherBug
From reading a few other google search items, you may be able to remove it by uninstalling Weatherbug.
Hope this helps.

NOD32 is far from crap, NOD32 is probably one of the top 3 you can use. Nothing however will always catch everything, nothing. That's why you can use alternatives when the need arises. I'd certainly suggest Kaspersky or NOD32 or nearly everything else...
