Gaming Mice
I'm looking for a gaming mouse (USB) that has alot of switches on it, side or otherwise.
I thought I would draw from the well of experience here first on some advice that will get me headed in the right direction.

I have a logitech MX Revolution for the precise reason that it has a ton of buttons, but I don't use it for gaming. Not sure how well it would do, and sadly, not much of a help for you as it is a righty.

I use the logitech MX518. It's corded.
2 main buttons
1 wheel
3 top button, 1 in front of wheel, 2 behind (inline)
2 side (thumb) buttons.
all programmable.
I think it's the same as the MX510 with changeable dpi settings on the fly.

Logitech G5. It now has two thumb buttons on a new revision. Best mouse by far for right handed gamers. Otherwise if your a lefty a Razer is fine.
The G5 has the same design as the MX 510/8 series but simply has a laser tracking system than a optical, works better on a variety of materials basically. Honestly, a Logitech or Razer is a great choice. I would stick to those two brand though, they're known and tested. Other gaming mice that are appearing these days... not so much.

I have 2 G5's and they are great, you can adjust the speed on the fly slower when your sniping and faster when your flying

The MX518 corded is actually the one I have, but I haven't been able to get the little round buttons on top to program the way I want them in the game. I'm must be missing something. Any suggestions? I didn't install the logitech software do I need that?
I was looking for a mouse with 4 thumb buttons on the right, but looks like it doesn't exist.
I see the razr has 2 side buttons on each side, but the ones on the right for a righty aren't easy to push and play and the thumb buttons on the left are a little farther back than my Logitech MX518 and doesn't play as smooth.
Thanks for all the feedback BTW !!

Yes you must have the Logitech software installed in order to configure those, they're not a standard mouse button and therefore there is no support such as that without a driver for it. Honestly as far as performance you're not going to get better really than a MX518, the G5 and other laser mice don't track better unless you're using a fairly bad surface.
As for the Razer mice with 4 buttons, I think those are cloned actually but I'm not sure. Meaning they perform the same function as the "same" button on the other side. Don't quote me on that though.

I do really like the performance of this MX518, and am using it on a Headshot gaming surface Soul gave me at the Smiley Lan & it rawks. Thanks Soul.
I'll install the software & now I will be happy without having to buy a new mouse.

The software isn't bad, its actually improved with each version. When I got my first Logitech high end mouse (MX700) and so on. I've had the MX700, MX500, MX510, MX518, and now the G5. So I'm really familiar with the Logitech family of mice in the upper end. I love the feel and the reason I've stuck with them so much is because they are the only mice that really allow my hand to be comfortable after a lot of use.
