Well according to sources both of these sets are supposed to be released on HD DVD this year. No mention anywhere of blue ray. If this is the case I have a feeling this will be another blow against blue ray.

I read at IGN not two or three days past that will assuredly be an LOTR HD-DVD set, however Peter Jackson will be doing all of the mastering and such himself, apparently (according to the director of the EE bonus features) he wants to look over every piece of film shot and deliver the highest quality HD possible. I think we should look for it next Christmas. Also it was said in the same interview that they have tons of outtakes and deleted scenes that will probably finally see the light of day on the HD-DVD release. This is one of the main sellign points for HD-DVD over Blu-Ray.... "but don't you want to see The Lord of the Rings in HD?" gets them every time.... almost.
