HD DVD players are being very aggressive on the pricing but I'm not sure if it will be enough. The PS3 at $300 (same in the U.S. and Canada) is pretty tempting considering the 2 in 1 factor. It's one of those things you can debate about until you're blue in the face (or is that blu?) but no clear cut winner is going to be decided anytime soon.
Thanks on the setup. 42" Sharp Aquos, Harmon Kardon AVR (5.1) with 5 Polk Audio speakers and a Klipsch Sub. Then there's an HD PVR (160 GB HD) , Macbook Pro (optical digital out btw) a 20 GB 360 (on my 3rd) and a 40 GB PS3). I'm all ready to settle down for the winter

nice I like polk audio. I have polk audio surround sound sats system with center channel and a polk audio sub. I want to upgrade to a 7.1 system but that wont happen till I build a new house. Prob build a home theatre and put a 7.1 system in it for that lovely DD+ sound . you do realize you can put media on the 360 using a portable hard drive that is formated with the mac operatiing system? works great for watching movies ratheer than streaming . I dont think you can do that with the ps3 but im not positive....
You can look at the disc sales etc etc all you want and make it fit in either direction you want. For example with the amount of blu-ray players and the amount of hd dvd players out there the attatch rate is pathetic. Statistically there are 3.8 disc sold for every HD DVD player compared to only 1 for every blu-ray player. So no matter what numbers come out you can make one side look better than the other side lol.
I dont think christmas will decide a winner but it will decide who has a lot of catching up to do . I wont buy a blu-ray player till its price goes down considerally more and there are alot of people who think the same as me. Christmas, however, is the time people bring out those stupid credit cards and charge charge charge.

Because Warner is going to go HD-DVD, to neutral to Blu-Ray and then back to HD-DVD. It's over.

?????????????????????????????
anywho I just read that they were offered and accepted a $480million "bribe" to go blu-ray. Also its HD DVD not HD-DVD.
I also find it ironic that the usa blu-ray exclusive titles are only exclusive blu-ray in america not over seas. Europeans are producing/encoding those blu-ray titles on HD DVD's and since they are region free they play just fine over here .

Warner was one of the original three that supported only HD DVD (I do hope you'll find room in your heart to forgive my "-"), those being Universal, Paramount, and of course Warner. From there Paramount and Warner changed to supporting both formats. Paramount was given a payment (same as likely Warner received from the Blu-Ray group) to return back to only HD DVD. Just now Warner was given a payment to go to only Blu-Ray. So the chances of Warner going from HD DVD exclusive, to both, to Blu-Ray, and then back to supporting HD DVD are very very slim.
With this deal the Blu-Ray camp will have 70% of the HD format releases in sales judged by the companies market presence overall, in reality it'll probably mean a 3:1 Blu-Ray to HD DVD ratio instead of the current 2:1. HD DVD is effectively dead at this point, only depends on how long Toshiba and in some ways Microsoft (who's only real gain is to drag this war out till digital services, which would be huge for MS, come to the forefront more) want to continue it pointlessly.
As for Europe, that's Blu-Ray land. The Playstation 3 is the most widely sold Blu-Ray and it is doing much better in Europe in comparison to the US. So I seriously seriously doubt it makes any sort of difference. This format war is over, now the real one starts: Blu-Ray vs DVD.

I wasnt upset about the - just pointing it out is all . as for being over I wouldnt say its over just yet HOWEVER blu-ray has a LONG way to go before it beats dvd because its prices are so high right now. as for blu-ray doing better in europe I am sure it is but blu-ray exclusives in america are not exclusive in european countries is what I was getting at. Its almost like European countries are saying FU sony and America is saying YEAH BRING IN THE SONY. I hate sony as a company (not necessarily their products).

i don't care who wins, as long as someone wins. even tho ms has stated they wouldn't support blu ray, the fact that the xbox was designed so it could support it, gives me hope that they will...eventually.
however, if blu ray wants to seal the deal...they gotta get the price of the players down.

I wish someone would win already so I can pick one up, either a PS3 or the HD DVD add-on for my xbox.
