HD DVD press conference canceled for CES. It's most certainly over.
*Also New Line went Blu-Ray exclusive today. Not as big (about half) as Warner, but still yet another studio.

I have a 27 inch CRT so it wont make any difference for me But I agree, it would be nice for a decision to be made and then the prices start to drop so in say 5 years I could get one. Maybe by then I will have a better TV.

because of the format war prices have already dropped. Considerably faster than dvd did as well. DVD players were still $700 this time in the game when it came out blu-ray is already under $400 and HD DVD is already under $100 (though not 1080p as thats still same price as blu-ray one reason I havent gotten a stand alone player). Now that the format war is most likely over (I say most because anything can happen that is unforseen) blu-ray will take a while to go any lower because Sony is losing a TON of money on these players right now. From a source of mine Warner was paid 480million dollars and has to support blu-ray for 18 months just like paramount has to support HD DVD for 18 months from their deal. So in essence we have at least a year before one format will die. I just dont understand all the support for a format (blu-ray) that isnt even finished yet.
Even though you have a CRT both blu-ray and HD DVD will show you a difference though it wont be as huge as if you had a 1080p HDTV.

Blong, you must talk in real prices you can consistently find. HD DVD players are NOT $100 on a regular basis and for the most part the MSRP for the cheapest of players is around $250. You can find the occasional deal sure, but they're spread out and uncommon.
You're also not really making any sense at all and you're showing that you have no idea about the actual cost of the stand alone players. Toshiba is more than likely the one subsidizing their players in hopes of gaining market share, the most expensive part of these devices is shared and that should tell you something right away. The only "player" Sony is losing money on per unit is the PS3 which like ALL consoles that sale based on technological advancement is subsidized and then actual money is made from software licensing. The actual stand alone players for Blu-Ray are most certainly not being sold at a lose.
You also have no concept of what 1080P really is and why for 90% of people its useless compared to 720P. Hell besides the resolution HD is hardly a enhancement as other aspects of the signal are not massive increases over DVD unlike how DVD was compared to VHS. Oh and you also don't have some secret source...

lol its you who seems to not know what your talking about. Sony IS losing money on all their players. If they were not why did they just increase one of their stand alone prices to $400 from $300? as for the rest to keep myself from saying the wrong thing ill leave it be.

But if you don't know what you're talking about, how can you judge that about someone else Blong?
