then its perfect for you . Honestly you wont notice much of a difference (if at all) if you had a 1080p tv because the 1080p upconverts 1080i to 1080p.

You won't notice a different even if you have a 1080P set. The deinterlacing is done during the mastering, your TV is only doing the deinterleaving (weaving), which means unless your TV is simply horrible, then there is absolutely no difference. The only time there would be a difference is if the content is > than 30Hz. No movie is greater than 30Hz.

you just said exactly what I stated chem (well other than the 30hz lol).
Dyna if you had the ad you could have gone to BB and bought it for $98. Oh and whats funny is I saw that a few people bought the a2 at best buy for $98 then took the reciept to Circuit city because best buy showed the A2 as an A3 when it rung up so Circuit city price matched the A3 for $98 plus the 10% off making it $87 before tax's lol. Then they would return the A2 back to BB lol.
I myself want an A35 but that will be a while.

You said upconverts, which is not at all what it is doing. This isn't going from 480p to 1080p, this is weaving going from 1080i to 1080p. The final product is the EXACT same as if it were a 1080p source file, which is not the case when upconverting. Upconverting is scaling the resolution, this is weaving... vastly different in both final image quality and method.
The A2 is arguably a better unit than the A3. The A3 could be considered a slight audio downgrade but it is also just slightly smaller.

uhh in the HD world everywhere I read they call it upconvert from 1080i to 1080p. (I will ask the HD experts on this cause im by no means an expert and I just want to make sure who is right).
as for the last comment.....
maybe you need to check out toshiba's players because the A3 is most certainly NOT a downgrade in audio capabilities.
HD DVD - Official HD DVD
Though I could be wrong since I dont know anything about High Performance Sharc DSP.

(I will read the pdf later and if im wrong I will apologize to you chem).
as for me I want the a35 .

I was out looking for an Upconvert DVD Player for the wife's TFT HD TV this weekend. I didn't like the $43 Memorex one I had for my TV, so I looked at a few more expensive ones and ended up deciding on a Toshiba Model HD-D3. It came with the HDMI Cable already, and had two free movies in the box. Sams Club had dropped their price on it to $128.48. After looking at it in action, and liking the image, only then did I realize that it also plays something called HD DVDs, and the 2 free movies are also HD DVDs, being 300 and Bourne Identity. (That last part about something called HD DVDs was sarcasm...)
I bought it, and love it. I know it only does up to 1080i, but both our TFT TVs are only 1080i max anyway. If Blu-Ray wins, well, we can still use it to watch Upconverted regular DVDs like we are now anyway.
Once the 47" 1080P TFTs drop below $800 later on, I'll replace my 42" 1080i that I got for $800, and then will pick up a 1080P HD player for under $100 (being the one that wins the HD war (HD DVD or Blu-Ray)).
My son can then have that old 42" for his Xbox 360 and using that old DH-D3...
