Rio Hosts Motorcycle Jump Record for New Year's Eve
Australian motorcycle daredevil Robbie Maddison will attempt to fly his Honda motorcycle more than 300 feet to claim the record for the longest motorcycle jump ever. It all takes place on New Year's Eve at 11:00 pm ET, 8:00 pm local Vegas time. The show takes place from the overflow parking lot at the Rio Resort in Las Vegas. A huge dirt ramp has been constructed for the landing and ringside bleacher seating is available for a $12 admission ticket. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN TV as part of their New Year's Eve Extravaganza. Maddison has dedicated the stunt to the recently passed Evil Knievel.
A second stunt scheduled for the show has been cancelled. Orange County California daredevil driver Rhys Millen was injured during practice for his truck backflip stunt. During his third practice run the truck landed on it's top on concrete injuring Millen's back and neck. The first two flips into a cardboard pit were successful. No word if ESPN will telecast the accident.
Robbie Maddison sets new world record distance of 322 feet and 7 1/2 inches for motorcycle jump. In a near perfect effort the Australian daredevil made it appear easy.
Yeah, we ended up switching back and forth between it and Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' eve. Cool jump, but the "hyping it up thing" around it got old quick. Guess they had some time to fill
It's incredible Dick Clark's still doing this thing, but he sure is having a lot more trouble with it.
