If you read Ender's Game make sure you follow up by reading Ender's Shadow. I think you need both to be able to fully appreciate the entire story.

*Seconds Smiley's recommendation* Even if you're not a fan of fantasy, this series is amazingly good. I've been waiting very impatiently for the next one to come out.

I third this recommendation.. I have read alot of books and this is probably the first book that I couldnt guess the outcome of any given situation, which is good for me.. His style of writing is easy to follow and the story progresses very smoothly..

how have none of you "sci-fi fans" recommended Asimov's Robot Series (includes I,Robot which is nothing like the movie, so much better)? That's like the number one sci-fi series out there. you cant be a sci-fi novel fan if you havent read it

I thought Asimov's foundation series was a bit better than his robot series.. but that is my opinion..

ok, maybe i phrased that a little off: how can you be a sci-fi fan without having read Asimov. there, that's more politically correct

I have to agree with Silver I liked the foundation series more than the robot series, but I did not recommend any of Asimov's material becuse to me it was a given. Reading Asimov is like learning the alphabet in Sci-fi. PS I'm looking for the books that connect the Robot Series to the foundation series. They seem to be out of print. Robots & Empire. I know I can find them on Amazon but if anyone has other suggestions I'm all ears.

Smiley, I have to agree. If you read all three in the Ender trilogy then you should read the parallel trilogy of Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, and shadow puppets, none of them live up to the orginal but they are still excellent books that deserve a read.

Vampire$ by John Steakley is good also. But Armor is his best story, although you can tell he was a new writer then. He likes using the same character names in both books, but the characters are not the same. He supposedly is completing his sequel Armor 2 . . .

I didn't care for any of the other Shadow books though D-Fragger. Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow were both awesome, the others you mention were poor in comparison - like the author was just writing to make money.

A Song of Fire and Ice series is probably my favorite read. I also liked the Ender and Ender's Shadow series. The Shadow of the Giant was released not too long ago and once it goes to paperback I'll be getting it.

D-Frag, have you read Children of the Mind or Speaker for the Dead? Those are the stories that follow the Ender series. I enjoyed them a lot although they are really different from the Ender book. Hell, any Orson Scott Card book makes a good read.

As Smiley said, Robin's Farseer Trilogy is also really good.
