Book reccomendations?

OK, the War of the Worlds thread reminds me that I need some reading recommendations. I have something of a collection of old books. I've read a fair amount of Bradbury, Orwell, HG Wells, Christopher, etc. I also have some non fiction (Corbett, K. Anderson, Tesla, etc.) and "literature" (Frost, Twain, etc). But my collection is by NO means complete. I'd like some recommendations for good reading, especially good Sci-fi but anything will do. I used to read strictly factual history books but I figured out that reading "period" literature was not only more interesting but also a better view into the past. Thanks!

Oh, I get a lot of stuff through www.alibris.com. Very good for tracking down stuff I didn't think I'd be able to find.

You would probably really enjoy House of Leaves, its simply the most amazing book I've ever read, its sci-fi, but a little more. Ringworld was a little confusing but not bad, that was a great sci-fi book by Neiven (Sp?). Those are my too reccomendations for you!

Books!

When I was growing up, I was a huge Robert Heinlein fan. After reading his stuff I decided I wanted to be an aerospace engineer when I grew up. Don't know what the hell happened there.

Most of the historical fiction I've read is of English history. Edward Rutherford writes books similar to James Michener's historical novels.

And I've enjoyed Sharon Kay Penman's novels about early English nobility.

Armor, by John Steakley (My favorite book)

George RR Martin's Fantasy series "A Song Of Fire And Ice". The 4th of the series is due in Nov. Only writer that ever got me so involved with characters that I wanted to throw the book against the wall when some died. Fantasy medieval.

Robin Hobb's has written multiple good series - I'm reading the Farseer series right now. Fantasy medieval.

I just got done finishing "Maps in a Mirror: The Complete Short Fiction of Orson Scott Card". I must say it was really good. Some of the short stories were much better than some of even his best books. I also enjoyed the short commentary that he provided after each section and about each story.

Read "Presumed Innocent" while I was up at my Mom and Dad's.

The writing is awesome...very immersive.

Hadn't read in ages, and that book captivated me.

"Hailed as the most suspenseful and compelling novel in decades, Presumed Innocent brings to life our worst nightmare: that of an ordinary citizen facing conviction for the most terrible of crimes. A Literary Guild Dual Main Selection soon to be a major motion picture from Sydney Pollack and United Artists. A gripping novel by the author of One L (

*Seconds Smiley's recommendation* Even if you're not a fan of fantasy, this series is amazingly good. I've been waiting very impatiently for the next one to come out.

Second of Madd's Recommendations. After many years of marriage my wife wanted to read her first Sci-fi book, It's all I buy anymore. I gave her Ender's game and she was hooked. We both have read the 6 books of the group all were good but none topped Ender.

You might also enjoy (wife and I read these as well and enjoyed them so much we had to get the hard covers)
House Atrades, House Harkkonen, House Corino
