I hunt because I love going out and enjoying the fall. I pass up more game than I actually shoot. But if they are really dumb then I feel it is my responsibilty to take them out of the gene pool. Hey how many lives have I save by preventing dumb deer from running out in the road and getting hit by a car. Much more work to be done in this area, but every little bit helps.

I don't particularly like to kill animals, but if people didn't hunt deer down here in Georgia they would overrun the whole place. They also make the forest devoid of edible vegatation so other animal populations suffer. Things are all out of wack because we don't have any predators.

Anyhow, think of hunting as a way of bringing nature back into balance. (For those of you thinking about Bambi).

You are correct Brian. I only hunt what I will eat. Birds being my favorite. I don't care for deer meat enough to hunt them (which is alot of hassle). If I did like deer meat more I would hunt them... but since I don't. I don't kill animals that I don't intend to use. Something my father taught me... something I am passing on to my kids.

I agree with you both on that. The biggest contributers to habitat restoration are hunters. They contrubute more than anyother group to ensuring that the habitat and game are managed at levels that are with in the best interest of all. I am the only one in my family that likes to eat wild games so I dont hunt much anymore. But when I do I only take what I can eat myself

Oh you guys!! Quit it with all this sanctimonious "I'm doing it to preserve the balance" horse poop. KILL!! Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill!!!! Do the bloodlust thing! Roll around in their guts! Eat the heart raw! AAaaaarrrrggghhhhh!!!

OK, now the truth of the matter is I also agree with y'all. I'd much rather see them alive and frolicking around but I do eat them (eventually) after I shoot them. I've let more pass by than I've shot and they were the horribly stupid ones. I would venture a guess that the furthest shot I've made while hunting deer is approximately 15 yards, most of them within 5. Heck, the last few years I take a laptop out into the blind and play games (I turn the sound off)...it passes the time. Now that I have a super-d-duper digital camera, I may just shoot photos instead if I can figure out how to disable the flash. Seems everything runs when that goes off.

DMW dawns a flak jacket and joins MA.........................

On a side note.... how about that Mt. Lion taking up residency in Northwest Omaha MA? I certainly hope the parent over there are taking this seriously... two sitings in a 10 day period... I would be a bit concerned if I was a parent living over there... and the city of Omaha doesn't seem to be doing much about it.

I would have to see it myself or see a good picture of it to confirm it is a Mt. Lion. They don't like people much and would not hang around a populated area unless it was a pet that escaped. I would think it is probably a bobcat or a lynx or a joke. The fish and game folks searched the area for it and didn't even find any tracks so I would think it's prob. a hoax.
