For you leet investors

What does a 401k statement mean with

Last month 3.43%
Last quarter 6.92%
Year to date 8.64%
One year 20.37%

whats the diff between year to date and One year?

is ytd from January until now? and One year is from a year ago today?

I could be wrong but I always though it meant the forecasted annual growth will be xx%. So the one year means they are forecasting it to grow 20% in a years time. Your year to date is what it has grown "to date" of the calendar year... or maybe fiscal year even not sure there.

I could be wrong but I think that's what it is. I mean if you have a fund that grows 20% annually for a good number of years... your doing alright. Since this is 401 were talking.

My year to date has been 20% at one time. but that was a couple years ago. So to me they are low .

My 401K just the last quarter of 04 finally made back the $$$ lost when the market crashed!!!

Yeah, you're doing pretty good there Blong.

And I think you're assumption about YTD versus one year is right.

aahh but I invested heavily in growth for a while. being I am only 26 . I have only been doing it just shy of 5 (will be 5 years in April). I figure I have some time to gain $$$ back if the market crashes . although its kinda cool seeing a gain of $1000 in a day hehe. I dont normally look at my 401K that often but maybe 1x every month I check on it to see how its doing.
