recovery software

A friend of ours had hard drive crash. i cant remember what kind of recovery software I should get to try and get pertinent data off the drive. Is qwest one of the best or should I try something else?

I have some drive forensic software at work. Get me the drive and I'll see what I can do. If it is a hardware failure like it doesn't even spin, then he is out of luck. He would then have to sent it out to like OnTrack Data Recovery, I think they are $100 per MB.
